Babies Toddlers Twins: Toddlers and Dogs

Last year I wrote?a post on?babies and dogs. At the time, three dogs and two babies was a?bit chaotic. The dogs pretty much annoyed me most of the time. Now I just feel bad for them because they lay around too much and get picked on by Natalie and Vera. When I?have time to give?the dogs a good amount of attention, it means we are really one big happy family.

The dogs have grown more tolerable of the girls. Sid will let them dress him up and Bella doesn't show her teeth anymore. Bella is our skittish dog.?This tiny?sweet?chihuahua mix was abused by her previous owner.?I can't imagine what she's been through. It has taken her a few years to trust people other than me. I love?when?family and friends?get all excited and say, "she let me pet her!".

Bella has always been protective over the babies. She watched over?Vera and?Natalie?as infants and now when they sleep at night. She did however, nip?Natalie in the arm once.?Natalie came up behind?Bella while she was eating,?and reached in to the dog bowl. Nattie's arm had two little dots that were teeth marks. This was when Bella was still in the show-some-teeth phase. Still not sure what to make of these toddlers destroying everything in their paths...mini King Kongs maybe, perhaps? Ever since Bella was scolded for biting Natalie, she puts up with a lot more. As for Sootsie...she wouldn't hurt a fly. Well...maybe Sid, but?that's mostly noise. Sootsie?dominates?the other dogs. She's the?little black one in?the photos below. I love all?my dogs the same, but Sootsie is my favorite - my first girl. She's still the same fiery ball of soot as the first day we met her.

Even though the girls?get?annoyed by the?dogs, saying "out!" or "go go!" (often when food is involved), I think they will grow up with an appreciation for animals. I hope to get them in to volunteering at an animal shelter or sanctuary. For now, they're pretty good dog walkers.?
