There was no fat to trim on the NBA's Thursday line-up, just three stupendous games.
Knicks 104, Spurs 100
The one Thursday game that wasn't on national TV featured the two best teams in the league, and the miracle Knicks came out ahead thanks to a powerful fourth quarter offense led by J.R. Smith, Jason Kidd and Raymond Felton. New York dropped 32 on San Antonio in 27 possessions in the final frame while holding the Spurs to 24 points. It's worth noting that not only did Carmelo Anthony only score 1 point in the fourth, he had just one shooting possession despite playing all 12 minutes. And the Knicks rolled in the quarter and won the game. Is this Earth?
Heat 98, Nuggets 93
The Heat led by as many as 19 in the second half, but Denver stormed back behind Andre Miller (19 points, including 13 on 5-7 shooting in the fourth) to get within one at two spots. But LeBron James was excellent with a couple of backbreaker jumpers. He had 27 points and 12 assists on the night. No Dwyane Wade for Miami, and Mario Chalmers suffered an injury. Shane Battier came through with six three-pointers and one of the most timely drawn charges I've seen in a while (on Ty Lawson as the Nuggets attempted to take their first lead of the game deep in the fourth), and Kenneth Faried was a monster with 16 points and 20 points.
Nets 102, Celtics 97
With Brooklyn up by 12 early in the third quarter, the Celtics went on a 20-2 run to seemingly take over the game and give the pockets of green inside Barclays Center license to yell. But the Nets swung it back around, with Joe Johnson coming alive in the fourth quarter (9 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal). Rajon Rondo sat out, so *.
